Author Talks and School Visits

Author Visits

I’m always delighted to visit schools and libraries, meet my readers and talk about my life as an author. I offer a full range of author talks including whole school assembly talks or smaller class focused workshops.

Author Talks St Alphege

A visit to St Alphege in Solihull

Typically, my assembly talk will include a reading from one of my books and a humorous take on my journey to being a published author. In the classroom, I lead creative writing sessions.

My aim is to share my passion for reading and writing for children. Maybe a few of your pupils will be inspired to pick up a pen and write their own books.

MY SCHOOL VISITS – THEMES

Here are some talks I give regularly, but am happy to discuss something specific with you as long as the theme ties in with one of my books.

  • My life as an author. Great way to start the day in assembly or in individual class groups. All ages.
  • How to make a brainpower sandwich. Fun exercise to get kids thinking about healthy eating. Linked to Help I’m a Genius. All ages.
  • Letter from another planet. Creative writing session on descriptive writing. Linked to Help I’m an Alien. KS2 and KS3
  • How to write comedy – a taster workshop for KS2 and KS3

My School Visits – structure of the day

When you book me for a days visit to your school, you are booking me for 4 sessions and a book signing session if applicable)

The sessions could include an assembly talk of 30-40 minutes and 3 class talks or workshops of 40-60 minutes. Or you might prefer me to spend the time with 4 different classes.

My books are aimed at 7-12 year olds. My talks are interactive and include props. I am happy to put together workshops for younger pupils with advanced notice.

The children will get most out of the day if the teachers are engaged with the event. There is not always enough time for the children to finish a piece of writing and it would be great if they could continue with the support of their teacher after I have left. I am always delighted to hear from students after an event and will publish a selection of work on my website so do send a few photos or letters if you wish.

What does it cost?

My fee is £425 for a full day (4 sessions and a book signing) plus travel expenses from my home on the Kent/South East London border.
If you book consecutive days, the additional day(s) will be at a reduced rate of £375 plus expenses.
My fee for a half day is £275 (2 sessions and a book signing).
